The 2018 NFL award show opened Tuesday with three of the most interesting and notable moments in the league’s history: the NFL’s first women’s league, the debut of the NFL Network, and the emergence of a new kind of player in the NFL.
In honor of the occasion, we’re giving the best players of each of the past 10 seasons their own awards.
For this first-place player award, the best NFL player in 2018 was a rookie in the NFC West named Robert Woods.
The first-year Packers quarterback had just one interception and just two touchdowns as a rookie, and his stats on the year were better than the first- and second-place players.
Woods was named MVP of the NFC championship game.
In a league that is becoming more diverse, he has the chance to prove he can make a big impact on the NFL, which is in need of a more diverse group of players.
